Professional Summary

With a decade of experience as a Chartered Accountant in New Zealand and a background as a leading mortgage adviser in the UK, Bruce brings a unique blend of financial expertise and a passion for helping clients achieve their homeownership dreams. His extensive accounting skills, combined with his mortgage experience, provide a thorough and insightful approach to financial matters.

Bruce is focused on clear and straightforward communication with his clients, striving to demystify complex financial concepts and create a comfortable environment for open discussion and informed decision-making. Tailoring his service to each client’s unique needs and goals, he focuses on more than just securing a mortgage – he aims to help them forge a path toward personal and financial success.

What drives Bruce is the opportunity to make a positive impact on his clients’ lives. He finds great reward in guiding clients through their individual financial journeys and witnessing tangible results.

Outside of work, Bruce maintains his balance through his passion for open ocean paddling and road cycling, which help him maintain his energy in his professional role.

Areas of Specialisation

Bruce has a particular strength in working with first home buyers, many of whom are navigating the mortgage process for the first time and managing significant financial and emotional complexity alongside it. He is patient, thorough, and skilled at helping clients understand what they need to have in place before they are ready to buy, working proactively to prepare their position and guide them through each stage with clarity and confidence.

Self-employed clients and business owners often face additional hurdles in the mortgage process, particularly around income verification and the way lenders assess non-PAYE earnings. Bruce’s nine years as a Chartered Accountant give him a material advantage here, he understands how to read financial statements, interpret trading accounts, and present a client’s true financial position to lenders in the most effective way. For clients who have previously found the mortgage process difficult due to the nature of their income, Bruce’s background is a genuine differentiator.

Bruce advises clients across the full range of residential lending needs, from initial purchase finance through to refinancing, refixing, and restructuring. His accounting background gives him a strong analytical lens when reviewing clients’ financial positions, and his experience as a mortgage adviser means he understands how to structure applications effectively and advocate clearly on behalf of clients with lenders.

Experience and Background

Bruce's career path is unusual in the mortgage advisory space and represents a genuine advantage for his clients. Beginning his career as a mortgage adviser in the United Kingdom, Bruce then moved to New Zealand where he retrained and spent nine years as a Chartered Accountant, developing a deep command of financial statements, cashflow analysis, tax structures, and the financial decision-making that underlies property ownership. He brought that expertise back to mortgage advising when he joined Threefold, where he has been working with clients for the past two and a half years.

This combination – accounting rigour, international lending experience, and New Zealand market knowledge – means Bruce approaches mortgage advice with a level of financial literacy that goes well beyond the transactional. He is well placed to work with clients whose situations involve complexity around income, structures, or financial planning, and to communicate that complexity in terms lenders understand.
